2023 Annular Eclipse ES:CSP Mentor Application
APPLICATION DEADLINE: 7/10/2023 - You MUST be 18 years or older to apply
Please review ES:CSP mentor requirements and commitments and then fill out the application below if you would like to apply to be an Eclipse Soundscapes: Citizen Science Project (ES:CSP) Mentor for the October 14, 2023 annular eclipse. As an ES:CSP Mentor you will gather and lead a group of participants from your community and introduce and guide them in some or all of the ES:CSP roles available. Mentors who support ES:CSP data collection will receive a free ES:CSP data collection kit with all necessary tools to collect ES:CSP sound data (subject to kit availability).
Role Requirements
- Eclipse Learning (Apprentice Role): No location requirements, can be done before/during/after eclipses. Internet access required.
- Observation Collection: No location requirements, on or off eclipse path observations welcome, training before eclipses, activity day of eclipse. Internet access required.
- Sound Data Collection: On or near eclipse path, Eclipse visibility 80%+ for 2023 annular eclipse path, training before eclipse, activity during eclipse week – not on eclipse day. Internet access required & Kit required.
- Mentors accepted through application process who support ES:CSP data collection will receive a free ES:CSP data collection kit with all necessary tools to collect ES:CSP sound data (subject to kit availability). Kit delivery by September 2023 for annular eclipse data collection.
Mentor Commitment Upon Acceptance
- Mentor Training – Complete free online asynchronous ES:CSP Mentor Training (1-3 hours)
- Organize and lead 2+ citizen scientists in learning about eclipses, observing, and/or using the data collection kit as a team to collect data during the 2023 annular eclipse.
- Submit Observations (if applicable) – Submit your teams observations via the ES:CSP website form after the eclipse
- Share Audio Data (if applicable) – Submit collected data either via a upload using the ES:CSP website or mailing the MicroSD card using a prepaid envelope
- Communicate questions, concerns, & feedback with the ES:CSP team
