Individual Participants

Individual participants can support the Eclipse Soundscapes (ES) project and its scientific mission in many different ways. Some of these options are all online, some will invite you to get outside to observe or collect data, and all will be exciting ways to get more involved in the science surrounding the 2023 annular eclipse and the 2024 total solar eclipse! As you complete the different levels and participate in different roles you can earn virtual badges. Learn more below!

Requirements: 13 and older (with guardian permission under 18), technology requirements differ by role, on or off eclipse path opportunities!

STEP 1

Eclipse Soundscapes Apprentice

The eclipse learning level is called the “Apprentice” level. Anyone who wants to participate must complete this level. You will learn lots of cool information about annular and solar eclipses. All of the lessons are free, online, and at your own pace. At the end of the lessons you can take a quiz to earn your Eclipse Soundscapes Apprentice certificate of completion! (LESSONS COMING IN JUNE 2023)

STEP 2

Group of adults of various ages, ethnicities, and genders. Some are sighted. Some are wearing glasses. And one person is wearing dark glasses and holding white cane.

Eclipse Soundscapes Citizen Scientist

Once you’ve completed the Eclipse Soundscapes Apprentice level you have the eclipse knowledge needed to advance and participate as an Eclipse Soundscapes Citizen Scientist! Together we will figure out if solar eclipses affect life on Earth! You can help by participating in one or more of the Eclipse Soundscapes Scientist roles below. Each of these roles has its own important scientific objectives, which include observing, collecting data, and analyzing data.  And you’ll earn completion certificates for these roles too!

Observer

Go outside and observe with all of your senses during the 2023 annular or 2024 total solar eclipse You can be on, near, or off of the eclipse path. ALL observations welcome!

Data Collector

Collect Data using an AudioMoth Recorder along or near the 2023 annular eclipse path or the 2024 total solar eclipse path.

Data Analyst
